Lake Berkeley Dam Issue

Update - Feb. 4 - 'Dam, Spillway, Lake' FAQ updated.

Update - Feb. 2  As citizens know, the City has been working on evaluating the storm damage to Lake Berkeley dam and has involved FEMA at every stage of the process, including detailed meetings with the Georgia Safe Dams Program.  At a meeting with FEMA and Georgia Safe Dams Program on January 15, FEMA expressed support for our approach to repair the dam, and we were led to believe that they would share the cost of the repair strategy that our engineers outlined.  Once the City transmitted the Engineer’s cost estimate to them they decided today that they would not pay for some of the repairs. 

The Mayor has been in contact with both of our US Senators and our US Congressman to ask for intervention with FEMA.  Citizens who would like to contact their federal legislators may do so as follows:

Census Bureau - Jobs Available

The 2010 Census Bureau Needs Citizens from the City of Berkeley Lake
Immediate Openings Available

The U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting 10-12 Berkeley Lake citizens as temporary, part-time census takers for the 2010 Census. These short-term jobs offer flexible hours, paid training, and reimbursement for authorized work-related expenses, such as mileage incurred while conducting census work. Regularly Scheduled February 9th Planning & Zoning Commission Meeting- CANCELLATION

The Planning & Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for Tuesday, February 9th, 2010, has been cancelled. The next regularly scheduled Planning & Zoning Commission meeting is scheduled for March 9th.  The submittal deadline for applications to the Commission to be heard at the March 9th meeting is Tuesday, February 9th at 4:00PM.

 
Severe Weather Warning Siren System

WHAT DOES THAT NOISE/SIREN MEAN?

The City of Berkeley Lake is proud to have a severe weather warning siren system strategically placed within the City. While our siren system may be activated locally, it is generally managed by the Communications Division of the Duluth Police Department. Following is the information regarding siren use in the City of Berkeley Lake. The siren may be heard beyond the City limit boundaries. If you have additional questions please call the Duluth Police Department at 770 476 5191.
