The City of Berkeley Lake provides services beyond those of the County and State governments which add to the quality of life of all its citizens. Roads: The city maintains all roads in the city limits except for Bush Road, North Berkeley Lake Road, and South Berkeley Lake Road, which are maintained by Gwinnett County. Trash and garbage pickup: Advanced Disposal is the exclusive hauler. Street lights: The city pays for street lights throughout the city for nightime security. To report a problem with a street light, please contact the City Clerk. Parks and recreation: The City maintains the popular childrens' park near City Hall for the enjoyment of area children. - Fall Festival
Ordinance Enforcement: The City enforces ordinances related to trees, planning and zoning, septic tank inspections, trash collection, graffiti, noise and other areas to help maintain property values throughout the City. Planning and Zoning: Zoning ordinances shape the nature of our City. They place restrictions on unbounded property rights in order to achieve an environment in the interests of the citizens. Without zoning ordinances, we would evolve into something many of us would dislike. We are extremely fortunate to have the full authority of a City, especially a small one, to mold our government to our specific community requirements. Our Planning & Zoning Commission or our Ordinance Enforcement Officer will be glad to assist you with any zoning questions. Public Safety: To supplement the police services provided by Gwinnett County, the City of Berkeley Lake provides additional police coverage by contracting with off-duty Gwinnett County police officers. The City also provides an Emergency early waring system. The City has its own emergency managment agency BLEMA (Berkeley Lake Emergency Managment Agency) Management: The City (through its City Council members, Mayor and paid staff) provide management and oversight of programs, which include, but are not limited to, the following: Seeks County, State and Federal assistance grants which are currently providing additional funding for sidewalks, tree restoration, road maintenance, traffic control, and West Nile Virus control. Maintains a high profile in County government ensuring every citizen a voice and the City more clout in issues which affect our citizens. Oversees commercial development to ensure community standards are maintained. The City publishes a directory of residents, properties, and important information.
