Septic Tanks (Ch. 17)

  • The owners of all septic tanks or other on-site sewage management systems shall have the tank inspected and pumped out every five years by a septic tank contractor who is registered with the Gwinnett County Health Department. Proof of inspection is due no later than December 31 of  2006, and 2011, and so on.
  • Upon completing the inspection of the system and pumping out the tank, the contractor shall attest on a form to be provided by the City that the septic tank or on-site sewage management system, together with the absorption lines and the absorption fields are in proper working order.
  • For further health and maintenance of your septic system, DO NOT pour any oil or grease down the drain. Keep heavy cars or equipment away from the area where the pipes and absorption field are located. Practice good water conservation by repairing leaky faucets and toilets. Spread clothes washing over the entire week, and operate only with a full load of laundry.
